We tested them. You know, for science.

Breaking news: Halo Top just announced that they’re rolling out seven new flavors to join their 17 current varieties of ice cream: Pancakes & Waffles, Cinnamon Roll, Green Tea Mochi, Rainbow Swirl, Candy Bar, Chocolate Covered Banana, and Caramel Macchiato. Sure, you could go out and buy all seven new flavors as soon as they hit stores—but to save you the cash, we taste-tested them so you'll know what to make a beeline for once these babies hit the freezer aisle.

People have been freaking the eff out over Halo Top for awhile now and with good reason—it’s higher in protein than your average ice cream (it contains five grams of protein per serving compared to the three in Dreyer's Slow-Churned varieties), lower in both carbohydrates and fat (Halo Top has five grams of carbs and two grams of fat compared to the 12 and 16 grams in Ben & Jerry's, respectively), and crazy-low in calories. Seriously: You can literally eat an entire pint of Halo Top for anywhere from 240 to 360 cals total. It also doesn’t taste like your average light ice cream (read: it's better), making this a serious win for fans of frozen sweet treats.

In the name of science, we sampled six of these new flavors (unfortunately, we couldn't get our hands on Candy Bar) and ranked them in order from our favorite to least favorite to try to help you make the most educated choice in the frozen food aisle. (That said, no judgement if you buy them all!)

Here’s what you need to know about the new flavors (which should be in stores by the end of the month):

Cinnamon ice cream is amazing. Cinnamon ice cream with chunks of cinnamon rolls is epic—and Halo Top threw in cinnamon icing swirls to really blow you away and make this flavor truly reminiscent of your beloved sticky buns. Several of our testers actually went back for seconds with this flavor—they liked it that much.

This pint channels those classic flavors with banana-flavored ice cream swirled with milk chocolate. While the banana flavor wasn't for everyone—you'll want to steer clear if you aren't into the Laffy Taffy banana taste, which this is closer to than the flavor of, well, an actual banana—those who liked it really LOVED it.

Calling all brunch lovers! Halo Top put actual pieces of pancakes and waffles into the ice cream, giving it a cool texture. And, of course, you can’t forget the maple syrup—that shows up in little pockets, too. It's a little on the sweet side but tastes surprisingly like the real thing.

Learn how to make your own avocado-lime ice cream:

Caramel macchiatos have been huge at coffee shops for ages, and now you can get one packed into a pint. This coffee ice cream features caramel ribbons, which definitely overpowered the java taste, according to our testers. This was certainly more on the sweet side, so if you're a fan of Starbucks' Frappuccinos, you'll probably have similarly favorable feelings about this frozen treat.

Fruit-flavored ice cream can be a tough sell—especially if there’s no chocolate in it—but some people really dig it. So, Halo Top came up with a treat that uses orange, lime, and raspberry flavors in one pint. If you love rainbow sherbet, this is your thing (although it's worth noting that one taste tester said all she could detect was mango, not distinct fruit flavors).

To be fair, green tea ice cream isn’t for everyone, so this was pretty much destined to be ranked pretty low when it’s stacked up against something like Cinnamon Bun. But, if you love green tea and mochi (a sweet Japanese rice cake, in case you’re not familiar with it), you should dig this flavor. The ice cream actually has little mochi bites mixed in to give you a cool texture, too.

While we didn't get to test it, Candy Bar def sounds amazing. Halo Top describes it as a blend of “crunchy peanuts, layers of chocolate, and caramel swirls serving up those ideal candy bar vibes.” Stay tuned for more information—you can bet we’ll update this article with ~breaking~ Halo Top news as soon as we get our hands on a pint.
